Youth Group Revived; More Females to be Inducted & Tolerance to be Promoted

LFP’s held its seventh Board meeting  on Jan 14, 2011 in Lahore. The meeting turned out to be an important one as several crucial decisions were taken.

The Board decided to revive its youth wing under a new name: Liberal Youth Group and amended its Constitution to give effect to its revival and to give it a more concrete and democratic shape.

The age for membership in LYG was lowered from 35 to 29 years; and thus anyone in the age group 16 to 29 years can apply for membership in LYG and can also retain membership in both the LYG and LFP as long as membership for both is being paid.

Roughly speaking, the LYG structure will resemble the LFP structure and details in this respect can be reviewed by looking at the LYG chapter in the LFP Constitution given on this website.

The Board also amended its Constitution to create a position for vice chairman and Mr Mustafa Baloch was elected for this position effective June last year.

It was also decided at least one female should be elected as an office-bearer at the provincial and the national level; and there should be at least one female member in the Board. Dr Huma Baqai will be asked to fill this position during the current tenure of the Board which will last until end of this year.

Most of the constitutional amendments were proposed by the Board member Mr Akram Khurram from Khanewal. It was decided at his behest that the provincial and national office bearers must be members of LFP for a minimum of one and two years respectively.

It was decided that the Presidents of all the Chapters, Board members, and the provincial and national office bearers shall constitute the General Body of LFP and a meeting to elect the new office bearers for the period 2012 to 2014 will be held sometime in October this year. Ideally, most Board members felt that all members should form the General Body. However, it was felt that it is not feasible to fund the transport and the accommodation of all the members as the budget may run into crores; alternatively, if the trip is not funded then the members from the place and around it would have an advantage over the others.

It was also decided to revamp the position of the Information Secretary and get him to play a more active role A Publication Committee consisting of the Information Secretaries from all the provinces was constituted.

The Board members also spent two days discussing the yearly activities for 2011 with the FNF staff members; and it was decided that LFP will work to promote "Peace and Tolerance" during the year through its activities.

A three member Funds Seeking Committee was also established. The Committee will comprise of Mr. Shehbaz, Mr Ghulam Mustafa and Mr. Sajid Channa.
