Good Governance Will Be Possible When All Departments Work Within their Jurisdiction & Implement Rule of Law
On March 5, Bahawalpur Chapter organized seminar on Peace & Tolerance.
The speakers at the seminar included Engineer Mian Baleeghur Rehman (MNA, Bahawalpur), Hafiz Ubaidur Rehman Saqib (religious scholar), Mirza Naeem Akhtar (journalist), Mr Ayaz Kulyar (General Secretary & Advocate High Court), Mr. Aqeel Najam Hashmi (PMLN) and Mr. Shahbaz Awan (Punjab President LFP).
Muhammed Nasir briefed the participants about LFP and objective of the seminar.
Hafiz Rehman said that religious and pious peoples always respect others people and others never feel any danger from them. He said that there is no compulsion in Islam.
Mirza Naeem Akhter shared his views about secularism and said that root of all social evils in Pakistan is the absence of secularism; resultantly, the nation, according to him, lacks good and moral ethics and instead is infested with hate.
Mr. Ayaz Kulyar said that the role of the State is not that of a moral or religious arbiter. It is not for lawmakers to intrude upon or decide the religious beliefs of their citizens. Their duty is to safeguard individual freedoms and preserve human dignity.
Mr Baleeghur Rehman said that good governance will be possible when all departments work within their jurisdiction and implement rule of law with sincerity.
Question and answer session followed every speech and seminar ended on concluding remarks by Muhammed Nasir.
Liberalism Means Tolerance & Equality of Opportunity
The Bahawalpur chapter organized a seminar on “Promoting Liberalism” on July 23, 2010.
Mr. Naeem Tahir Khan General Secretary LFP Bahawalpur welcomed the participants and speakers. Muhammad Nasir President LFP Bahawalpur introduced the LFP and its working and objective of the seminar.
Mr. Gulzar Hussain Rahee said liberalism means tolerance, equality of opportunity and rule of law at all levels without any discrimination. He added if we want to bring a change in the society we must change our attitude towards liberalism.
Ms Sofia Arshad briefed the audience about human right laws and universal declaration of human rights. She stressed that everyone should play an active role to create awareness in the community about these laws; this would enable the citizens to protect their rights and play thier responsibilites.
Ms. Farzana Yasmeen said freedom comes with responsibility. She was of the opinion that if we want Pakistan to become a progressive state, then we should promote liberalism in the society and give everyone equal chance at all levels without any discrimination.
Prof. Dr. Muhammad Shahzad said liberal Pakistan was the vision of Quaide Azam and he expressed his views in his first speech in the Constituent Assembly on August 11, 1947. He further said that we have remained divided on the basis of religion and now our enemies are trying to divide us on the basis of ethnicity. We should promote tolerance in our society and adhere to rule of law to combat extremism. He added we should involve more and more people in to the decision-making and give them the right to express their feelings.
Dr. Haroon Rasheed Yawer also relied on Quaide Azam’s August 11 speech in which he declared Pakistan a democratic and secular state. He said that when we talk about a democratic and a progressive Pakistan, then we have an image of a society where every citizen has equal rights. If we want to see such a Pakistan, then we should promote tolerance and give every citizen equal rights.
Sheikh Liaqat Majeed said basic human rights start from articles 9 to 28 in the Constitution. Every Pakistani has the same rights and equal opportunities at all levels. He called on the audience to respect others' rights.

Muhammad Nasir Elected President & Mr Naeem Tahir as Secretary in Bhawalpur
On March 21, LFP Bhawalpur Chapter has convened a meeting of members to elect the office bearers for the year 2010. Mr. Shahbaz Awan Punjab President and Rao Akram Khurram board member supervised the elections.
Ms Sofia Arshad elected as the Information Secretary Bhawalpur.
