Pakistanis Require Social Harmony Along With Sustained Peace 
On Feb 22, DG khan Chapter conducted a seminar on Peace & Tolerance, with Mr Faiz Rasool Khan Lakhozai (social activist), Syed Riaz Jazib (journalist), Mr. Naeem Jaskani (provincial Information Secretary of LFP), Professor Malik Altaf Hussain (sociologist & educationist) and Malik Mehboob Saqib advocate (former nazim of a union council).
Mr Imtiaz Hussain Naqvi, president DG Khan chapter, initiated the discussion. Mr Lakhozai then shared his views and said that civil society can play an active role for bringing about peace and tolerance at grass root level if it stops indulging in corruption and does not look to the donors for hefty salaries and air-conditioners and instead sincerely devote themselves to serving the people.
Syed Jazib talked about secularism and said that no nation can make progress without promoting and protecting basic rights of vulnerable and indigenous communities besides providing enough space for secularism. He asked people to define indigenous community and then explained to the participants after getting an unsatisfactory response.
Mr Jaskani appreciated the effort of LFP to highlight the important issue and that strongly believes in the LFP ideals and will remain committed to them all his life. He said that along with organizations like LFP, it is also the responsibility of the political parties and the civil society to raise awareness about tolerance. He also criticized the politicians for only thinking about money and not the plight of the masses.
Professor Hussain said that every citizen has its own positive and effective role to protect and promote individual freedom to achieve peace and tolerance. He emphasized the need for undertaking efforts to bring out sustained effective changes at grass root level in the attitude, behavior, thoughts, opinions and knowledge of community regarding tolerance.
Malik Saqib said that Pakistanis require social harmony along with sustained peace and tolerance. He posed the question as to how Pakistan can progress without achieving peace and tolerance and criticized the State sponsoring the sectarian madressahs in South Punjab.
Mr Imtiaz Hussain Naqvi concluded the seminar which was followed by snacks.
Topic: Local Government & Governance
On March 10, LFP has organized a seminar on the subject “Local Government and Governance” in the district Dera Ghazi Khan to form a new chapter and hold election to elect the office bearers for the year 2010. Sardar Javid Iqbal Qaisrani Ex. District Naib Nazim, Ms. Tayyaba Aziz Member district councilor, Ms. Ruqia Bano Ex. Tehsil Nazim, Mr. Riaz Hussain Senior Journalist and Mr. Naeem Akbar Khan Information Secretary LFP Punjab spoke to the seminar.
Ms. Ruqia said now the time that civil society and local communities play their effective role to high light the governance issues of the society. Ms Tayyaba Aziz said we should strengthen the institution with transparent and accountable system. Mr. Riaz said democratic governments should continue devolution plan with some of amendments in the system that will help for its true spirit implementation.
Sardar Javid Iqbal Qaisrani said that local government system has given comfort to the public to resolve their local issue at local level and involve the public in decision making process. He further said public remember the period of local government system. He appreciated the LFP to organize seminar & highlight the issue of general public regarding governance and devolution plan.
Large number of activist, journalist, lawyer and civil society members participated in the seminar. Seminars was followed by the district elections to elect office bearers of LFP for the year 2010. Sixty member of district participated in the elections out of sixty eight members. Mr. Naeem Akbar Khan Jaskani Information Secretary LFP Punjab supervised the LFP Dera Ghazi Khan Chapter elections. Syed Imtiaz Haider was unanimously elected as the President LFP D.G.Khan, while Mr. Asif Naqvi as the General Secretary and Ms. Sadia Kanwal as the Information Secretary LFP D.G.Khan.
Dera Ghazi Khan Chapter Elects New Office-Bearers
On March 10, LFP Dera Ghazi Khan Chapter has convened a meeting of members to elect the office bearers for the year 2010. Syed Imtiaz Haider was unanimously elected as the President LFP DGKhan, while Mr. Asif Naqvi as the General Secretary and Ms. Sadia Kanwal as the Information Secretary LFP DGKhan.
