Time To Bring About a Change in Our Thoughts Regarding Religion & Beliefs
On March 30, Kasur Chapter conducted a seminar on Peace & Tolerance clubbed with chapter’s election.
Mr Rafiq Kazam Paseen was elected unanimously as the president. Mr Maqsood Minhas as the GS and Mr Aziz as the Information secretary. Dr Noor Ahmed Akhter supervised the election process which was appreciated by all for its impartiality.
The speakers at the seminar included Mr Akram Gill (religious scholar), Mr Irshad Hussain (religious scholar), Ms Asma Kiran Pervaiz (principal TLS), Mr Samiullah (former member of the district assembly and president IMA), Mr Khadam Hussain Shad (president of the local Press Club), and Dr Noor Ahmed Akhter (an active LFP member and TLS founder).
Mr Rafiq Kazam Paseen, the newly elected president started the seminar. He was followed by Mr Gill who said that it time to bring about a change in our thoughts regarding religion and beliefs. He was of the opinion that extremists were coming out from their madressahs which may be dangerous for all of us.
Mr Hussain said that Islam is not enforceable by force and everybody should be free to do whatever he or she wants.
Mr Asif said that the system is rotten with the rich exploiting the poor to the hilt and exploiting religion to create differences amongst the people to perpetuate the present exploitative system. He proposed secularism as a solution.
Mr Hussain said that media can bring about a revolutionary change in the minds of the people by healthy discussion, instead of the present useless talk-shows which do not add to people’s knowledge and many a times result in creating even more confusion.
Ms Kiran explained we envisaged transforming Pakistan into a welfare state that enjoins religious freedom, tolerance and equal rights to all irrespective of their faith, creed, sex, belief or religion.
Dr Akhtar said that good governance can also play a healthy part to make the society a welfare state. It is also the duty of individual and society to work for its betterment.
Question and answer session took place after each speech and the seminar ended with concluding remarks by Mr Maqsood Minhas.
Kasur Chapter Calls for Behaving Like a Liberal if We Wish to Promote Liberalism
Member Royal College of England Dr. Noor Ahmed Akhtar; Mr. Zahoor Elahi and Principal KRK School Mrs. Asma Kiran participated in a seminar on Promoting Liberalism organized by LFP Kasur chapter on August 7, 2010.
Dr. Noor, a founding member of LFP, said that liberalism defines the responsibilities of individual at all levels. He was of the opinion that liberalism is a social and political thought that teaches us how to live in a society.
Mr. Zahoor Elahi said equality of citizens, rule of law and an independent judicial system are the foundation of any society; we should promote these values in the society where no one is above the law and every citizen has equality at all levels without any discrimination.
Ms Asma Kiran said a person who cannot realize his social responsibilities is a hazard to the freedom of others.
Mrs Shamsa Maqsood said we should behave like a liberal if we want to promote liberalism in the society.
Mr Maqsood Minhas at the end thanked all the participants.
Kasur Chapter Elects New Office-Bearers
On April 21, LFP Kasur chapter has convened a meeting of members to elect the office bearers for the year 2010 under the supervision of Ex. Punjab President Dr. Noor Ahmed Akhtar.All members took part in the elections and unanimously elected the following office bearers for the year:

General Secretary: Mr Maqsood Ahmed Minhas
Information Secretary: M. Abdul Aziz
