Movement for Tolerance Will Help Control Corruption

On March 5, Muzaffargarah Chapter conducted a seminar, clubbed with chapter’s election.

Mr Munawar Hussain Bukhari was elected unanimously as the president, Ms Hameeda Naz as the GS and Mr Qamerul Laghari as the information secretary.

The speakers at the seminar included Mr Rasheed Bhatti, GS District Bar Muzaffargarh, Ms Rashda (professor), Mr Khair Muhamamd Budh (former EDO) and Ms Hameeda Naz (social activist).

Ms Muqadas Abro (LFP Member Muzaffargarah Chapter) introduced the seminar and started it. Mr Rasheed Bhatti said that tolerance should be linked with the concept of personal freedom; he said that corruption can be controlled and prosperity brought about if tolerance prevails in the society. He thus blamed the corrupt elements in the society for the current intolerant culture in Pakistan.

Mrs Rashda said that there is discrepancy between words and thoughts of Pakistanis, and desired the nation to act as they profess and proclaim publicly. She said that we are hypocrites as we talk of peace and security but promote violence and fanaticism and introduce sentimentalism and sensationalism, belligerency and bigotry, in our everyday lives. She especially targeted the media and the political parties for this menace and hypocrisy.

Ms Hameeda Naz focused on good governance and said that the challenge of extremism and terrorism can only be tackled if the political leadership comes to consensus on the basic postulates of rule of law and respect laws.

Malik Muhammed said that secularism is described by the uneducated as “ladiniyat” and people then get scared to raise voice for its promotion. He denied that secularism has anything to do with ladiniyat

Seminar ended by remarks of Mr Munawar Bhukhari and a question and answer session.


Promoting Liberalism

On May 2, LFP Muzaffargarh Chapter has organized a seminar on the subject “Promoting Liberalism”. Mr. Olaf Kellerhoff Resident Representative FNF, Mr. Anees Jillani Chairperson LFP, Malik Khair Muhammad Budh GM NCHD, Mr. Zubaid Ul Islam Sherwani Ex. President District Bar Muzaffargarh, Mr. Ramzan Qureshi President PML (N) - Muzaffargarh and Mian Fiaz Ahmed Ahmed PML (Q) spoke to the seminar.  
Mr. Kellerhoff said liberalism is a philosophy which gives equality of opportunity to all citizens to grow according to their knowledge and capabilities; he added world developed societies playing a leading role for strengthen democracy and formed their liberal parties to promote liberalism. He further said In Pakistan a large number of citizens like the liberal philosophy but they need collective efforts to make a liberal society.
Mr. Jillani introduced the LFP vision and its objectives.  He mainly focuses on equality, Justice and devolution of power. A society where everyone have equal chances and opportunity; a society where everyone participate in the decision making process; and where every citizen have equal rights without any discrimination on cast, creed, color and religion.  He further added free market of economy and market where everyone can develop itself according to his/her capabilities.
Mr. Budh appreciated the LFP to organize awareness raising seminar on the subject Liberalism. He criticized the political parties who claims for democracy but their attitudes with in the parties are non democratic. He quoted a reference of Article 17 of constitution sub class 4 has removed in 18th Amendment which was related to the inner party elections by the ruling so called democratic parties.    
Mr. Sherwani said a society can’t build without justice/equality in the society; where every one have equal rights, chances, opportunities and free market. He added our feudal system violate the freedom of individual so there is need of a collective effort to build a liberal society.
Mr. Ramzan Qureshi, and Mian Fiaz Ahmed also spoke on the occasion and stressed upon a society where everyone have equal rights and opportunities without any discrimination on the basis of Cast, Creed, Color and Religion.

Muzaffargarh Chapter Elects New Office-Bearers

On April 11, LFP Muzaffargarh chapter has convened a meeting of members to elect the office bearers for the year 2010 under the supervision of President Punjab Malik Shahbaz Awan.There were total of 85 members who had paid their fee; 60 members took part in the elections and unanimously elected the following office bearers for the year:

Mr. Muhammed Yousaf Arshad - General Secretary
Mr. Muhammad Qamar ul Haq - Information Secretary
