District Rajanpur is a far-flung and remote area of southern Punjab

It is located on Indus Highway; and is bounded on the north by District Dera Ghazi.Khan; on the east by Muzaffargarh and Rahium Yar-Khan; and on the south lies District Jaccobabad of Sindh.  While on the west are the districts of Dera Bughti and Barkhan of Balochistan Province.

The excluded tribal area of Rajanpur is connected with ranges of Suleiman Mountains in the western side.

District comprises of three tehsils and 44 union councils with a total population of 1,103,618;  85% comprises of rural population.

The rule of patriarchy and feudalism still prevails in this area. Local tribe leaders are strong and influential; and the feudal system, conservatism and narrow mindedness have adversely affected poor people, especially women. Socio economic indicators are alarmingly low in the district as compared to the other districts of Punjab.

The literacy rate of Rajanpur is only 21%. Majority of people, especially women, are poor and illiterate in the area.
