Local Government & Governance

LFP Chapter Established in Sheikhupura and organized a seminar on the subject “Local Government & Governance” at Bismillah Marriage Hall, Sheikhupura.
On March 25, 2010, Sheikhupura Chapter was established and it held its first elections for 2010 under the supervision of Board Member Rao Akram Khurram.
There were a total of 24 members who had paid their fee; 23 out of them took part in the elections. Membership of 36 members has been approved but they have yet to pay their fee.
Mr Muhammad Azam Malik was unopposed elected as the President, Ms Tahira Azam as the Secretary, and Mr Muhammad Adnan as the Information Secretary.
Mian Liaqat Ali Ex. District Naib Nazim, Ch. Sheryar Cheema Ex. Tehsil Nazim, Secretary Bar Rana Zahid Mehmood, Mr. Kashif Bhatti General Secretary Press Club, Mr. Azhar Abbas Intellectual, Mr. Yaqoob Mujahid Bonded Labor Union President and Mr. Rao Akram Khurram Board Member LFP spoke to the seminar.
Rao Akram Khurram introduced the LFP and its functioning and Liberal point of view on the subject. Mr. Yaqoob Mujahid said we need a social harmony that requires promote liberal ideas in the society. Government should provide speedy justice to a common man and give equal opportunities to everyone at all levels with out any discrimination of cast, creed, religion, and color. 
Mian Liaqat Ali Ex. District Naib Nazim, Ch. Sheryar Cheema Ex. Tehsil Nazim, Secretary Bar Rana Zahid Mehmood supported the local government system in Pakistan with some amendments and suggested to the government to launch a campaign for public awareness and extensive training program to make the district government functionaries aware of their powers and responsibilities. They added government should make this system more transparent so this system provides a relief to a common man. They all appreciated the LFP to organize a seminar on the subject. 
Seminar ended with the question and answer session and word of thanks by the Mr. Azam Malik.
