Impatience Responsible for Conflicts

On Feb 19, Toba Tek Singh Chapter organized a seminar on Peace & Tolerance.

The speakers at the seminar included Mr Ghazanfer Ali (District Literacy Officer), Mr Nisar Ahmad (scholar), and Mrs Salma Habib (Advocate).

Mr Nasir Ahmad opined that the State must protect secularism and act as the regulator of religious practices to control religious fundamentalism.

Mrs Salma Habib said that freedom of expression is every individual’s right, and the person has the right to impart information and ideas through media.

Mr Ghazanfer Ali said that tolerance in all walks of life is necessary for a peaceful society; and impatience is responsible for 90% of the conflicts.

Seminar ended with a question & answer session and words of thanks by Mr Saleemi.


Promoting Liberalism  in Toba Tek Singh

Toba Tek Singh chapter organized a seminar on “Promoting Liberalism” dated July 17, 2010.

Dr Muhammad Amin, Mr Bashir Gill who is a writer, Rana Ehsanul Haq Advocate, Mr Nasir Saleemi President LFP Toba Tek Singh and Muhammad Yaseen Pervaiz were the main speakers at the seminar.  The seminar was followed by question and answer session.

Mr. Saleemi briefed the participants about LFP and its functioning.

Dr Muhammad Amin said Holy Book (Quran) also affirms individual freedom. He quoted the Quranic verse regarding faith versus non-belief in God, which said that the choice according to Allah is that of the individual. He said that individual freedom is linked with social responsibility. Thus, when we take decisions, we should be aware of its consequences or its impact in the life of individuals as well as of the community.

Mr Bashir Gill spoke about secularism and through his poetry briefed the participants about this important element of liberalism.

Rana Ehsan Ul Haq said rule of law is a foundation for our liberties and orders. It allows us to organize our lives, and resolve disputes in a rational way. There are those around the world and throughout history who have fought for the rule of law. He summed up his discussion by the quoting Aristotle: ”Where the law is subject to some other authority and has none of its own, the collapse of the State is not far off but if law is the master of the government and government is its State, then the situation is full of promise and men enjoy all the blessings that God showers on a State.

Yaseen Parwaz explained about the salient features of federalism to the audience. He said that it is a system in which the power to govern is shared between national and provincial governments.

General Secretary LFP thanked the participants and speakers.


Topic: Local Government & Governance

On March 14, LFP’s Toba Tek Singh Chapter has formed and election held to elect the office bearers of the district clubbed with seminar on the subject of “Local Government & Governance”.  Mr. Akram Khurram Board Member LFP, Ch. Muhammad Ishfaq Ex. District Nazim, Ms. Azhra Rohi Ex. Member District Assembly, Mr. Liaqat Shahzad Khan Principal of Vocational Training Institute Kamalia, Mr. Manzoor Ahmed Naz President Press Club Toba Tak Singh and Mr. Sohail Ghani Spoke to the seminar.
Mr. Akram Khuram briefly described the LFP & its functioning. Ch. Muhammad Ishfaq said local government system is the best system which directly in favor of a common man. Ms. Azra Rohi passed comments in favor of local government & said development of the district possible through this system to involve common man in decision making process. He quoted the example of Toba Tak Singh development projects during this tenure.
Mr Liquat Shahzad Khan said the decision making and legislation through the elected representative is the essence of Democracy. He further added this system should continue with the improvement in our accountable system & make more this transparent and vibrant.
Mr. Manzoor Ahmad Naz said people should use their voting right and vote to whom who has worked for the betterment of common man & development of the district. He said it would not be possible to demolish this system.
Mr Sohail Ghani said no reason to appoint administrator in the district rather hold local government election. He added no reason to delay in the elections?  People accountable to their elected representatives through their right to vote.

 


Toba Tek Singh Chapter Elects New Office-Bearers

On March 14, 2010, Toba Tek Singh Chapter held its elections for 2010 under the supervision of Board Member Rao Akram Khurram.
There were 27 members who had paid membership fee for the year 2010 and 36 members whose membership had been approved but they had not paid membership fee. 23 paid members participated in the meeting.
Mr Nasir Mehmood Saleemi was elected unopposed as the President, Ms Shumaila Anjum as the Secretary, and Dr Maqsood Ahmad Shanawar as the Information Secretary.
All the participants congratulated the newly elected office bearers on their election.
Thereafter seminar on the topic “Local Government and Governance” was held which the newly elected office bearers conducted.
