Internal Security Threats Emanate From Sectarianism

On Feb 20, Vehari Chapter conducted a seminar on Peace & Tolerance. The speakers at the seminar included Mr Shahid Toor, GS of the local Press Club, Chaudhry Sadat, former DCO Gujrat, Chaudhry Usman Ali, President Vehari Chapter and a well-known national consultant.
Mr Shahid Toor shared his views about individual freedom and social responsibility and said that tolerance comes before individual freedom. Tolerance is the idea that views and ideas other then one’s own must be tolerated and one should tolerate others. He was of the opinion that others should not be harmed and their freedom should not be taken away.
Chaudhry Sadat Ali talked about secularism and said that domestic and internal security threats emanate from sectarianism, which acts as the first step towards religious extremism.
Chaudhry Usman talked about building tolerance and trust among diverse communities for creating tolerant attitudes for each other and alluded to its presence in the local chapter and his city. The sense of concern for others must prevail over callousness, blind prejudice and discrimination.

Equality and Rule of Law are the Roots of Progressive Societies
Equality and rule of law are the roots of progressive societies, according to Dr Ali Sher Toor, while speaking at a seminar on “Promoting Liberalism” on August 4, 2010 organized by LFP Vehari Chapter.
Ms Lubna Siddiqui said we have laws but lack education and awareness about them. She was of the opinion that we cannot protect our rights without education and awareness.
Muhammed Ali Madni opinioned that more people should be involved into the decision making process to strengthen democracy.
Member provincial assembly Punjab Ms Shumaila Aslam said awareness about freedom, rule of law, equality and social responsibility are the need of the day. She appreciated LFP for its initiative to create awareness amongst the people.
Mr Fayyaz Azeem said behavior of individual can bring a change in the society.
President LFP Vehari Chaudhry Usman briefed the participants about LFP; he stated that government should treat all equally at all levels.
Vehari Chapter Elects New Office-Bearers
On March 2, LFP Vehari chapter has convened a meeting of members to elect the office bearers for the year 2010. Ch. Usman Ali was unanimously elected as the President LFP Vehari, while Mr. Sadiq Ali Mirza as the General Secretary and Mr Shahid Pervaiz as the Information Secretary LFP Vehari.
The newly elected persons, spoke on the occasion, and discussed ways to more effectively organize the Chapter locally.
